Anti-Semitic writer to go on trial in Greece

For the first time in many years a journalist and a writer have been put on trial in Greece on charges of anti-Semitism. One of the defendants is Kostas Plevris, the author of a work entitled Jews: the Whole Truth. The book, which comes in at more than 1400 pages, has had a big print run and is freely available in Athens bookshops, expounds the theory of a Jewish world conspiracy and demands the immediate deportation of Jews from Europe. The other defendant is the editor of an ultra-right magazine which published extracts from the book. The Central Jewish Council of Greece and the social organization Initiative Against Racism filed a lawsuit against Plevris on the grounds of incitement to racial hatred.
