Suspects Detained in the Defilement of a Jewish Cemetery in Lisbon

Portuguese police have detained two suspects thought to have defiled a Jewish cemetery in Lisbon last week, informs Portugal News Online, with a link to representatives of the Jewish community of the Portuguese capital.

The police reported that two young people, ages 16 and 24, were suspected of committing this crime and have been arrested without delay.

Last Tuesday, the Jewish community of Lisbon reported to police the defilement of more than 20 headstones in a cemetery with swastikas and other damage.

The small Jewish community in Portugal was shocked by the act of vandalism. The representative of the community Ester Muchnik noted, that this is the first time such a crime has been committed in Portugal, where few more than a thousand Jews live today.
