Matvienko does not see massive Xenophobia in St. Petersburg


Valentina Matvienko, the governor of St. Petersburg, thinks that there is only a moderate level of xenophobia present in the city. �There is no mass-xenophobia present whatsoever�, said Matvienko at a meeting with journalists on Thursday.

She remarked, that a criminal gang has been arrested, which according to the investigation was held responsible for high-profile xenophobic crimes. The governor emphasized that it is impossible to associate these crimes with the general attitudes of the inhabitants of St. Petersburg. �There is no relation to the public mood of the city�, she emphasized.
