Matvienko does not see massive Xenophobia in St. Petersburg


Valentina Matvienko, the governor of St. Petersburg, thinks that there is only a moderate level of xenophobia present in the city. There is no mass-xenophobia present whatsoever, said Matvienko at a meeting with journalists on Thursday.

She remarked, that a criminal gang has been arrested, which according to the investigation was held responsible for high-profile xenophobic crimes. The governor emphasized that it is impossible to associate these crimes with the general attitudes of the inhabitants of St. Petersburg. There is no relation to the public mood of the city, she emphasized.
