Yushchenko Promises to consider the Problems of the Crimean Tatars

The President of Ukraine, Viktor Yushchenko, has declared that he will do his utmost to consider the problems of the Crimean Tatars and expressed his hope that the new structure of the Verkhovna Rada (upper chamber of the Parliament of Ukraine) and the government will effectively solve essential problems of the Crimean Tatars. At the same time Yushchenko noted, that presently this process is still moving ahead too slowly.

As AMI informed Novosti-Ukraina on Thursday in a press-release from the head of state, the President declared in an announcement to the Ukrainian people on the 62nd anniversary of the deportation of the Crimean Tartars from the Crimea and people of other nationalities.

Ukraine has practically been left alone to deal with the consequences of one of the greatest tragedies of humanity. And we are making all possible efforts to solve the problems of the deported. We have already started projects in economic, social and humanitarian fields, the President declared.

In his opinion, it is perfectly natural that the Crimean Tartars have found understanding and support among the Ukrainians who have also experienced famine, repression and oppression from a totalitarian regime. Names of well-known icons of the Ukrainian nation - General Grigorenko and Vyacheslav Chornobil - are forever connected with the history of the struggle of the Crimean people for the restoration of their rights.

Yushchenko emphasized that he together with all the citizens of Ukraine will end the suffering of tens of thousands of innocent victims.

The President also expressed his opinion that the main qualities of Ukraine - public calmness, interethnic consent and stability - will become the basis for a successful development of autonomy and a nation.
