"March Against Hatred" to take place in St. Petersburg on October 28th.

The fourth March Against Hatred in memory of Nikolai Girenko will take place in St. Petersburg on Sunday October 28th. The announcement was made today by Aleksandr Vinnikov, coordinator of the For a Russia Without Racism movement.

Everyone is welcome at the march, regardless of their political beliefs. Our only condition is that participants slogans must not incite any kind of discord. For this reason, members of Nashi [Our People] will not be taking part in the march, as I have told them that they can only attend if they agree not to display any of their slogans and symbols, which divide people into our people and not our people , said Vinnikov.

The route of the march will take in the Birzhevoi bridge, Universitetskya Naberezhnaya and Mendelevskoi Line. It will culminate with a rally at Sakharov Square.

Nikolai Girenko was a senior research fellow at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography, an expert on questions of nationality and race. He was the chairman of the Minority Rights Commission of the St. Petersburg Scholars Union and on many occasions acted as a consultant on the activities of extremist youth organizations for Russian law-enforcement agencies. The scholar was murdered on June 19th 2004 in his own home. The murderer rung the door-bell and when Girenko answered whos there? shot the scholar through the door. October 31st this year would have been Girenkos 67th birthday.
