High ranking Ingushetian Official Killed in Moscow


In Moscow on Monday the head of the republican energy commission of Ingushetia Batir Kurkiev died from injuries he incurred in an attack on the 19th of February at the Sukharevskaia metro station, according to Tuesdays issue of �Kommersant�.

Representatives of Ingushetia told the newspaper that Kurkiev arrived in Moscow on a business trip in the early morning of February 19th. However he never made it to his destination. According to the Ingushetian representative Umara Sapralieva, a group of 20 teenagers attacked Kurkiev at the Sukharevskaia metro station, dragged him into the street and beat him with iron bars.

Kurkiev was brought to the 33rd regional hospital with a serious head trauma. In spite of all the doctors� efforts, they were unable to save the Ingushetian official and he died on Monday. The criminal investigation that follows the killing of Kurkiev is being conducted by the inter district office of the Public Prosecutor. Investigators have refrained from forwarding any possible versions of events. The newspaper �Kommersant� is confident that this was a racially motivated crime, referring to the statement of the representation of Ingushetia that no valuables were stolen from the official.
