The Seminar �Cooperation of National-Cultural Associations with the Authorities and Law Enforcement Bodies for the Prevention of Extremism�


The seminar � Cooperation of National-Cultural Associations with the Authorities and Law Enforcement bodies for the Prevention of Extremism� took place in Priangarya from May 26th to May 28th, according to information received from the press-service of the governor of the Irkutsk area.

The seminar was organized by the Irkutsk governor�s administration of public national relations alongside the Center for Interethnic Cooperation (Moscow). Participants of a seminar included leaders and specialists of local state government, local self-management, police and national and religious associations of the Irkutsk area.

Through brain storming sessions and analytical discussion, participants looked at the reasons that lead to interethnic conflicts. The discussion covered questions such as: tolerance as an obligatory condition for the development of a multiethnic and multi-faith state, the analysis of international experience of cooperation between governing bodies, local government and ethnic associations as well as potential means of cooperation between the police and ethnic and religious associations. Participants of the seminar shared their experience of cooperating with the government, local authorities, police and ethnic and religious associations in the Irkutsk area.
