Informational support of national communities

Usually, the national minorities do not live compactly in the big cities of Russia. Not all of them have the possibility to publish their own newspaper or journal. At the same time surveys of the Center for Interethnic Cooperation show that the Russian mass media play a major role in the forcing of the ethnic conditions and propaganda of xenophobic mood.

informThe Center for Interethnic Cooperation created the internet-newspaper “INTERETHNIC”. Every day this newspaper publishes news about the ethnic situation in different countries of the world and the regions of Russia and also the activities of national and other civil society organizations in the sphere of international relations.

The newspaper “INTERETHNIC” continues the tradition of the journal “New Babylon” on the basis of which the Center for Interethnic Cooperation was established in 1997.

In fact, the newspaper “INTERETHNIC” became a popular publication on ethnic topics in the country. Not accidentally the site of the Center for Interethnic Cooperation won the second place in the category “INTERNET, ethnic media” in the All-Russian media competition “SMIrotvorjets” for the best coverage of interethnic interaction of the nations of Russia and their ethno-cultural development.

In the coming years, the Center for Interethnic Cooperation plans to increase the number of users of the internet-newspaper to several thousand people a day.

Every week the Center for Interethnic Cooperation publishes an Information Bulletin. In these newsletters the Center informs national and other non-governmental organizations of Russia about the achievements and problems in the sphere of interethnic relations in different regions of the country. The newsletter is send by e-mail to national associations of Moscow and 120 in other regions of Russia. The Center actively participates in the work of the European network against racism (UNITED for Intercultural Action).

The Center for Interethnic Cooperation for the first time in the history of Russia created a data base of national associations of the country. At the present time, in our data base are more than 900 national associations representing 75 cities of Russia. On the site of the Center for Interethnic Cooperation, the leaders of national associations and other users of the internet can find international and Russian standard acts related to national minorities.

To provide objective information about the conditions of interethnic relations in Russia and for the announcement of their statements and comments the Center for Interethnic Cooperation held press-conferences in Moscow, Yekaterinburg, Irkutsk, Krasnodar, Nizhniy Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Petrozavodsk, Perm, Pyatigorsk, Samara and Yaroslavl. The statements of the staff of the Center for Interethnic Cooperation were covered in the television channels NTV, RENtv and TBC, the regional television channels of Sverdlovskiy, Vologradskiy, Irkutskiy and Samarskiy oblasts, Krasnodarskiy krai and the Republic of Karelia, the information agencies “ITAR-TASS”, “Interfaks”, “RIA-Novosti”, the radio stations “Svoboda”, “Nemetskaya Volna”, the radio “Rossiya”, the newspaper “Isvestia”, “Kommersant” and regional newspapers.
