Russia tightens responsibility for violation of migration laws MOSCOW, October 26 (Itar-Tass) -- President Putin has signed the federal law "On Amendments to the Code of the Russian Federation on administrative offences." The law was passed by the State Duma on October 1 and approved by the Federation Council on October 13, 2004, the presidential press service reported on Tuesday. The amended law tightens administrative responsibility for the offences in the field of migration relations and brings the Code on administrative breach of law in line with the legislation of the Russian Federation that stipulates legal status of foreign citizens and persons without citizenship in Russia. The amended law administers punishment for the violation of the rules of the presence of foreign citizens and persons without citizenship on the territory of the Russian Federation and employment of foreign workers. The law envisages higher fines charged for the above-mentioned offences and shortens the judicial term for investigations into administrative offences for which a foreign citizen or a person without citizenship shall be expelled from Russia.
