We will necessarily be on the side of Jews in critical times

Returning from his first visit to Israel, the head of the French Catholic Church and one of the most influential religious figures in France, Archbishop Andre Vingt-Trois, declared at a press conference that he understands the concern of the French Jews in light of the present epidemic of anti-Semitism in Europe as a whole and in France in particular.

A personal friend of Pope Benedict XVI, archbishop Vingt-Trois considers that the Catholic Church should use all its influence to prevent the propagation and strengthening of anti-Semitism in the world.

"Jews should know that we will necessarily be on their side in critical times", declared Vingt-Trois.
