Journalists advised to leave behind hysteria and xenophobia Moscow: A round table discussion entitled The Mass Media Against Terrorism and Xenophobia was held as part of the 5th Eurasian Television Forum. The discussion included various experts, journalists, television producers and researchers. According to the Sova information centre the issues discussed included coverage of terrorist acts, the mechanisms through which negative ethnic stereotypes are formed and the transmission of aggression through electronic media. The conclusions reached were as follows: the need to find new ways of discussing the above mentioned problems, including the need to develop an educational program for journalists, as well as the need to develop clear corporate instructions and agreements, allowing those in the media to react professionally to critical situations and at the same time not transmit their own private xenophobic prejudices for their viewers.
